As an experimental and relatively young program, the Bio-Integrated Design program continues to iterate to better support the values of the program and the students’ interests and needs. As we worked to communicate with the program directors on behalf of the student body, I was interested in understanding how problems/interests could be framed into suggestions for the curriculum structure. The program directors had the experience and knowledge of how past iterations of the program worked out and between this knowledge and our understanding of the course for current students, we worked together to find actionable changes that the students would feel more aligned to. This back and forth in close proximity gave me key insight into the domino effect of small and big administrative changes in an academic environment, and how decisions may impact student wellbeing as well as the type of work produced over time from a program.
